About Zoe
I am in my final year of high school in Auckland and enjoy working with students to help them achieve academic goals and develop helpful learning strategies. I am hardworking, supportive, approachable and find it very rewarding working with students to help them build confidence and watch them improve.
I am passionate about creating a positive and encouraging learning environment, where students feel comfortable to ask questions and make mistakes without feeling judged. Through my previous experience, I have learned the importance of adapting to various learning abilities and making flexible lesson plans that can be tailored to students' needs.
I am a member of the Student Services Council at school which focuses on building a stronger school community through organising initiatives that promote involvement, fosters connections between cohorts and strengthens inclusion. I am also a volunteer student coach for a Year 9 netball team and I work with the players to improve gameplay through coaching drills and strategies in training and at games.
I have played tennis and netball for several years and enjoy playing these sports outside of school. I enjoy spending time with friends and also regularly play the piano.

I have been a lead coach for the Year 7 Mathex team, a role in which I plan weekly lessons and teach problem-solving strategies. Both teams that I coached scored 100% in the interschool competition. At school, I really enjoy subjects such as Economics and Chemistry and I completed Level 3 Calculus when I was in year 12. I have recently received awards such as Top in Economics and Top in French. I currently tutor Maths and English to several students on a regular basis.
For most subjects, I find that the best way to study is learning content and retaining it by working through several past paper questions. In doing so, it prepares you for a wide range of questions, where your knowledge can be applied to different contexts rather than using a rehearsed answer that risks not addressing the question correctly.
My tutoring sessions will focus on preparation strategies that each student finds most helpful, examples including active recall, flashcards and working through content, especially for content-heavy subjects. I will also place a large focus on breaking down questions and putting knowledge into practice as I personally find this extremely beneficial. Another important skill that we will build on is time management, as it can be challenging to sit three papers in three hours as required in some NCEA subjects.
