About Jess
I am a firm believer that anyone can be a "maths person." Oftentimes students get discouraged when they can't keep up with some of their classmates in maths class.
Throughout my maths studies at university, not everything has come very easily for me. In fact, there has been a lot that hasn't come easily at all. However, through consistent dedication, I am able to achieve commendable results.
I am able to relate to my students when they are confused or feel like they aren't smart enough. As a result, I like to bring a positive and judgment-free attitude to all of my sessions.
I love mathematics, and I love how they continue to challenge me. That passion and positive view of challenge is one that I love to share with my students.

Improving maths skills is largely about training your brain to think in a particular way. During my sessions, I focus less on teaching students how to complete individual problems and I focus more on the thoughts and questions they should be asking themselves in order to improve their problem solving skills. This way, students leave my lessons equipped with tools that they can apply to all of the problems that they encounter. Thus, I help students with short term success (understanding the routine homework) and long term success (improved critical thinking for examination) in their course.
Through independent study, I am well versed in the subjects of neuroscience, deep learning, and critical thinking. With a thorough understanding of how the brain reacts and adapts, I am able to tailor my sessions to favour the improvement of long term mental skills.
