About Oliver

Hi, I’m Oliver! I’ve been tutoring for 2 years, and I’ve learned that most students struggle because they just haven’t been shown a clear way in. Once we figure out how they learn, their confidence grows quickly, and watching that happen is why I love tutoring.

I take reliability seriously. Alongside school, I work in research and for a software company, so I’m used to juggling commitments without letting anything slip. You can count on me to show up on time, reply to messages quickly, and keep you in the loop on how things are going.

I’m easygoing and curious, and I try to make lessons feel like a conversation rather than a lecture. I’ll always be honest about what needs work, and I’ll make sure you notice how far you’ve come.

Every student starts with a diagnosis. In our first lesson, we look at a recent essay, test, or practice section together and pin down exactly where points or clarity are being lost. From there, I build a plan around those specific weak spots instead of reviewing everything at once. For test prep, students keep an error log so we can see which question types are improving and which still need work.

A typical lesson has three parts. We review what was assigned last time, then learn a new skill with clear examples (a grammar rule, a rhetorical strategy, a way to structure a paragraph or analyze a passage), and finish with practice where the student does the thinking and I give feedback. I ask students to explain their reasoning out loud, because that’s where most mistakes become visible and fixable.

My lessons are for high school students, college applicants working on personal essays, and university students who want help with writing or literature courses. I’m also fluent in Spanish and German.
