About Luis
I am a PhD Researcher in Artificial Intelligence and Engineering at the University of Aberdeen.
My research focuses on AI for autonomous navigation, particularly learning and reasoning under partial observability.
My university teaching experience in Computing Science includes:
Artificial Intelligence
Robotics
Languages and Computability
Alongside my PhD, I work on applied AI systems spanning autonomous systems and production AI software.
My research received a Best Paper Award at IEEE COINS 2024, and I subsequently placed second worldwide in a UN/ITU AI competition.

I provide university-level tuition in Artificial Intelligence, focusing on understanding the reasoning behind algorithms rather than treating them as black boxes.
Topics can include:

Sequential and state-based models
Machine-learning fundamentals
Algorithms and computational reasoning
Model evaluation
How I teach
For each method, I normally work through:
What problem is the algorithm trying to solve?
What assumptions does it make?
How does the algorithm work?
How is it represented mathematically or computationally?
How would you recognise when to use it?
Where programming is involved, I connect the implementation directly to the underlying algorithm.
Lessons can focus on difficult lecture material, exercises, worked examples, revision or exam preparation.
