About Mayleen

Hello! My name is Mayleen, and I am a student at Johns Hopkins University with several years of experience working with students of different ages and learning styles. I am passionate about helping students build both academic skills and confidence in their abilities.

Throughout my experience as a tutor and educational mentor, I have worked with students in subjects including mathematics, science, reading comprehension, study skills, and homework support. I have also worked with students who have diverse learning needs, including those who benefit from individualized instruction and alternative learning strategies.

I believe that learning is most effective when students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes. My goal is to create a supportive, encouraging environment where students can develop a deeper understanding of concepts rather than simply memorizing information. I am patient, organized, and committed to helping each student reach their academic goals.

My approach as a tutor is centered on patience, adaptability, and building confidence. I believe that every student learns differently, so I adjust my teaching style to fit each student's needs, learning pace, and goals. Rather than simply providing answers, I focus on helping students understand the underlying concepts so they can apply them independently in the future.

A typical session begins with a brief review of previous material and identification of any areas of difficulty. I finish each lesson with a summary of key concepts and recommendations for further practice.

As both a tutor and a student myself, I understand the challenges learners face and strive to create a supportive, judgment-free environment where students feel comfortable asking questions. I am particularly skilled at identifying where a student is getting stuck and finding alternative ways to explain the material until it clicks.
