About Nikhita
Hi! I’m a UCLA Data Science & Engineering Master’s student with a background in Statistics and Data Science from UC Santa Barbara. I’ve had the opportunity to intern at NASA Glenn Research Center and NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, where I worked on building and applying machine learning models to real-world scientific problems.
I am really passionate about making math feel more intuitive and less intimidating. I’ve worked with students across different levels and backgrounds, and I focus on breaking down complex ideas in a way that makes sense. My goal is not just to help students get the right answer, but to make sure they are given the tools to understand how to get there confidently on their own. I care a lot about access to education and creating a supportive learning environment, while still holding students to a high standard so they can reach their full potential.

My Approach as a Tutor
I focus on making math intuitive and approachable. Instead of just memorizing formulas, I help students understand the reasoning behind concepts so they can confidently solve new types of problems. I adapt each lesson to the student’s learning style, whether that’s step-by-step explanations, visual breakdowns, or working through lots of practice problems together.
Teaching Methods & Techniques
I use a mix of guided problem-solving and concept-based learning. I like to start with simple explanations, then gradually build up to more complex problems. I encourage students to actively participate during lessons so they’re not just watching, but actually learning how to think through problems independently.
Typical Lesson Plan
A typical session includes a quick review of past material, followed by focusing on any current challenges. I’ll explain key concepts with examples, then we’ll solve problems together before the student tries a few on their own with my support. I always end with a summary and optional practice to reinforce the material.
What Sets Me Apart
As a UCLA Data Science & Engineering Master’s student, I bring a strong analytical background and real-world perspective to math. I’ve used these concepts in machine learning and scientific research at NASA, so I can show students how what they’re learning applies beyond the classroom. I have tutored students of all ages from kindergarten to College level courses, and I enjoy the process of spreading knowledge and teaching what I know to help other students.
