About Rong
I’m a patient, creative, and outgoing person who really enjoys working with people. I believe learning should be both effective and enjoyable, so I like to make my lessons interactive, encouraging, and tailored to each student’s personality and goals. I’m also very organized, easy to talk to, and a good listener, which helps me understand what students are struggling with and respond in a supportive way.
Outside of teaching, I’m a university student, a competitive swimmer, and someone who loves reading, poetry, history, and Chinese culture.
I previously worked as a tutor in China, helping elementary school students become more confident speaking and using Chinese. Many of my students enjoyed learning with me and saw me not only as a tutor, but also as someone they felt comfortable talking to. I also have experience supporting students in two university courses at the University of Toronto, which has given me plenty of experience explaining concepts, answering questions, and helping students through the learning process.
My goal is to create a learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and gradually becoming more confident in Chinese.

Mandarin
I offer both online and in-person Mandarin lessons for students of all levels. For complete beginners, I can help you build a strong foundation from the very beginning, including pronunciation, vocabulary, grammar, reading and conversation. For students who already have some Chinese background, I can help further develop a more natural sense of the language, stronger reading skills, and a deeper appreciation of Chinese literature.
One thing that sets my lessons apart is my strong interest in Chinese history, literature and classical Chinese works, including Tang poetry, Song poetry and the Book of Songs. I also write poetry myself and have studied Chinese history extensively. Beyond improving basic language skills, I hope to help students understand the cultural and literary depth behind the Chinese language, so they can not only learn how to use Chinese, but also appreciate where the language comes from and why it is so rich.
