About Calum

I graduated with a first-class honours degree from the University of Edinburgh, achieving a distinction in spoken Spanish. I also achieved a C2 level in the Instituto de Cervantes DELE exam. I have more than 4 years of teaching experience and I have taught students with varying levels of Spanish, from the age of 10 to university students.

I teach Spanish because I believe that the language and culture have so much to offer. My classes aim to help students overcome their fear of communicating in another language and focus on progression. I hope that my students learn to enjoy and appreciate the value of studying a different culture. Finally, Spanish can open many doors for students, whether it be for academic, professional, or personal purposes.

About the lesson

I believe that replicating the immersion process is key and developing conversation skills is at the heart of this process. My lessons typically last one hour and I speak to my students in Spanish as much as possible, adapting to the needs and level of each student. Grammar is extremely important and can be quite daunting at first, but I introduce new concepts slowly but surely. I provide extra materials such as videos, films, songs, short stories, and books so that students can continue to explore the language outside of the class.

My daughter used lessons with Calum during lockdown and I would recommend him unreservedly. Thoroughly professional and highly motivating. My daughter was nervous at first but relaxed very quickly into an encouraging and interesting programme of work that kept her sharp during lockdown and massively helped
her first year at university.
