About Amy

For my GCSEs I achieved all A*s and right now I am an aspiring medical student, and I’m studying Biology, Chemistry, and Maths for my A Levels. But I’d be more than happy to help anyone preparing for their GCSEs or any other exams leading up to A Levels. However, I am particularly confident with the IGCSE Edexcel Chemistry syllabus. My goal is to make students feel more confident in what they’re learning and help them realise that they can achieve more than they might think.

I’m a big believer in the idea that everybody has the potential to achieve top grades in any subject, no matter their current ability. In my lessons, I will aim to pinpoint any areas which a student may be struggling and help them build a deeper understanding for key concepts, which will help set them up for success. I’ve been tutoring as part of a Refugee Tutoring programme for just under a year now, which has taught me a lot about how to make learning engaging and accessible for all kinds of students. It’s been a really rewarding experience so far, and I’ve learnt a lot about the importance of patience and adaptability in teaching. Additionally, I make sure to pre plan my lessons based upon the students weakest topics and I set weekly homework, which are combinations of weaker topics and key exam questions from past papers.

  • When did you develop an interest in tutoring?

I first became interested in tutoring while completing my Gold Duke of Edinburgh's Award, where I volunteered to tutor a refugee in Maths. Although we were covering fairly basic concepts, I found the experience incredibly rewarding. Seeing their confidence and ability improve over time gave me a real sense of fulfilment, and that's still one of my favourite aspects of tutoring today.
  • Tell us more about the subject you teach and the topics you enjoy discussing with students.

I've always enjoyed the calculation side of Chemistry, even though it's often one of the areas students find most challenging. I love breaking complex calculations down into simple, manageable steps and helping students realise that they're often much more approachable than they first seem. Once students understand the process and have enough practice, calculations can become one of the easiest ways to gain marks, and it's really satisfying to see that confidence develop.
  • Did you have any role models or a teacher who inspired you?

My GCSE Chemistry teacher was a huge inspiration to me. She had an incredible ability to make lessons both educational and enjoyable, and I genuinely looked forward to every class. Many of the techniques she used have influenced my own teaching style. She showed me that learning doesn't have to be dull, and inspired me to make my own lessons engaging, interactive, and informative.
  • What qualities do you think make a good tutor?

I believe patience and adaptability are two of the most important qualities a tutor can have. Over the past two years of tutoring, I've learnt that every student learns differently. Some concepts click immediately for one student but take much longer for another. A good tutor recognises this and adapts their teaching style to suit each individual's strengths and areas for improvement.

Patience is equally important because students should never feel embarrassed about asking questions or worry that they're slowing the lesson down. I always aim to create an environment where students feel comfortable making mistakes and confident enough to ask for help whenever they need it.
  • What difficulties or challenges have you faced in your subject?

When I was younger, I struggled with Maths. I found the pace of lessons quite fast and often lacked the confidence to ask for help when I didn't understand something. Because of that experience, I work hard to create a supportive and welcoming atmosphere for my students. I know how important it is to feel comfortable asking questions, and I never want any of my students to feel nervous or afraid to admit they're struggling.
  • Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching, your subject, or something else entirely?

Although I love teaching, I'm also passionate about healthcare and hope to study Medicine at university. I'm drawn to the opportunity to make a meaningful difference to people's lives, as well as the variety the profession offers. Every patient presents with different needs and challenges, making each day unique and giving doctors the chance to continually learn and develop throughout their careers.
  • What makes you a Superprof?

I believe what sets me apart is the effort I put into tailoring every lesson to each student's individual needs. I carefully plan my lessons to make the best use of our time while focusing on the areas where the student needs the most support.

Throughout each lesson, I regularly ask questions to check understanding and encourage students to explain their thinking, rather than simply giving them the answers. When they find something difficult, I guide them through the process, so they develop the confidence to solve similar problems independently in the future.

Most importantly, I strive to create a friendly and encouraging learning environment where students feel comfortable, supported, and never intimidated. I want every student to leave each lesson feeling more confident than when they arrived.
