About Calen
Hi! I’m a senior at the University of Kansas, double majoring in Chemistry and Biology, and I’ve spent the past few years mastering the same courses many students find challenging. I’ve worked in research labs, taken upper-level science classes, and know how to explain difficult material in a way that’s clear, supportive, and stress-free. My tutoring style is professional, encouraging, and focused on building your confidence. I’ve helped students improve their grades, understand tough concepts, and feel more prepared for exams—all while making science a little less intimidating. I’m a senior at KU double majoring in Chemistry and Biology, and I know how tough science classes can be—because I’ve taken them too! My approach to tutoring is all about breaking down complicated topics in a way that actually makes sense, using clear explanations, real-life examples, and a lot of patience.
I usually start each session by checking in on what the student’s learning and where they’re getting stuck. Then we focus on those tricky spots using practice problems, step-by-step breakdowns, and study techniques like active recall. I always try to keep it low-stress and encouraging.
What makes me different is that I’m a current student who’s been through these same classes—so I know what teachers and professors expect and where students typically get tripped up. My sessions are great for high schoolers, college students in intro Chem or Bio, and anyone prepping for exams or needing a confidence boost in science.
