About Merton
With a Master of Science in Synthetic Organic Chemistry from North Carolina Central University earned in May 2009, I bring both advanced academic training and years of classroom experience to every tutoring session. Since 2019, I have worked as a Chemistry and Physics Teacher with the Delaware Department of Education at Aspira in Middletown, Delaware, helping students succeed in challenging science courses through patient instruction, structured guidance, and personalized support. My professional experience allows me to explain difficult concepts clearly, adapt lessons to different learning styles, and prepare students for long-term academic success in chemistry and related STEM subjects.

A typical lesson begins with a quick review of previous material and any questions from class or homework. Then we break down the current topic into manageable concepts, work through guided examples together, and practice similar problems independently. I finish each session with a summary of key takeaways, study strategies, and practice recommendations to reinforce understanding outside of tutoring.

What makes my tutoring different is my personalized and supportive approach. I focus not only on getting the correct answer, but also on helping students understand why concepts work the way they do. I create a judgment-free environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and improving steadily. My sessions are organized, interactive, and designed to reduce anxiety around challenging chemistry topics.
