About Karla

Hi, I’m Karla! I’m a qualified Primary Teacher with over 8 years of teaching experience, both in Scotland and internationally. Teaching is something I genuinely love, and I’m passionate about helping children discover what they are capable of and feel proud of their progress.

I would describe myself as friendly, patient, enthusiastic and approachable. I believe building a positive relationship with a child is one of the most important parts of successful learning. I want students to feel comfortable being themselves, asking questions and making mistakes, while knowing that I am there to encourage and support them.

Outside of teaching, I have a real passion for music, performing arts, travel and keeping active. I enjoy bringing creativity and enthusiasm into my teaching, and I often use children’s interests to make lessons more engaging and memorable.

Having worked with children from a wide range of backgrounds and educational settings, I really enjoy getting to know each individual student and finding out what makes them tick. Whether a child needs a confidence boost, extra support with a particular area, or simply someone to challenge and encourage them, I aim to make every lesson positive, purposeful and enjoyable.

About the lesson

I am a qualified and experienced Primary Teacher with over 8 years of teaching experience across the Scottish, British and International Baccalaureate (IB) curricula. Alongside my classroom teaching, I have tutored students aged 5–14, providing personalised support across English, reading, writing, grammar and mathematics, including preparation for a range of school-based and standardised assessments.

My approach is child-centred, engaging and tailored to each learner. I begin by getting to know the child’s individual strengths, areas for development, interests and learning style. I then adapt each lesson to suit their needs and, where appropriate, align learning with their school curriculum and current classwork.

I believe children learn best when they feel confident, supported and successful. My lessons combine clear teacher modelling, questioning, guided practice and independent activities, with plenty of opportunities for children to explain their thinking and develop their independence. When preparing students for assessments, I focus not only on the content they need to know, but also on developing effective strategies, confidence and the ability to apply their knowledge independently.

For younger children, I use a highly interactive and encouraging approach, incorporating games, discussion and practical activities where appropriate. For older pupils, I can provide more focused support with specific areas of difficulty, comprehension, writing skills, mathematical reasoning and assessment preparation.

Lessons are typically 45–60 minutes, depending on the child’s age and needs. I am happy to provide regular weekly tuition or targeted support around a particular area, assessment or transition.

Having taught in Scotland and Dubai in both British and International Baccalaureate schools, I have experience working with children from a wide range of educational backgrounds and curricula. My aim is not only to improve attainment, but to help every child become a more confident, independent and enthusiastic learner.
