About Tanya
I am Tanya (MSc), a fully qualified Higher Education Lecturer currently teaching at the university centre here in Cornwall. I am passionate about helping students become the best version of themselves academically and personally. I started my own journey into higher education as a mature student, so I intimately understand the unique challenges of returning to study. I know first-hand what it feels like to learn not only a complex new subject, but also the daunting academic study skills required to succeed.
Today, I am a fully qualified Higher Education Lecturer holding a British Psychological Society (BPS) accredited Master's degree in Psychology, a PGCE, a CAVA qualification, and a full Enhanced DBS check.
I have extensive experience lecturing, supervising, and marking within the higher education sector, including direct expertise with the specialised marking systems used across Access to HE and CAVA frameworks. I currently support students from Access routes through to full degree levels. My expertise lies not only in deep subject knowledge, but in helping students develop the core academic skills needed to thrive at university.
I provide expert, tailored support with:
*Access to HE Psychology and Sociology
*University preparation and transition to higher education
*Academic writing and essay structure
*Harvard and APA referencing
*Critical thinking and academic reading
*Dissertation planning and support
*Research skills and literature reviews
*Group project and presentation skills
*Study skills, organisation, and academic confidence
I specialise in working with mature learners, Access students, undergraduate students, and anyone returning to education who would benefit from personalised academic support.
My approach is highly supportive, encouraging, and tailored to your individual needs. I aim to build your confidence alongside your academic skills, helping you become an independent and successful learner. Whether you need help understanding a complex assignment brief, improving your referencing, planning a dissertation, or preparing for university study, I can provide the practical, professional guidance you need to succeed.

"I specialise in supporting adult learners, Access to HE students, and students transitioning into higher education. As a fully qualified Higher Education Lecturer holding a Master’s degree in Psychology, a PGCE, and CAVA certification, my approach is highly strategic, practical, and tailored to reducing academic anxiety.
My Teaching Techniques & Methodology:
I do not just teach psychological theory. I teach you how to decode your specific assignment rubrics to secure maximum marks. My lessons focus heavily on the academic mechanics that universities expect you to know but rarely teach one-to-one.
Together, we will master:
The Psychology Writing Style: Moving away from description to master evidence synthesis and critical evaluation.
Journal Dissection: A step-by-step framework to read and extract data from dense research papers efficiently.
Referencing & Study Skills: Mastering APA formatting and Personal Professional Development (PPD) portfolios.
Typical Length of a Lesson:
Lessons are typically 60 minutes long. This allows us enough time to analyse an assessment brief, critique a piece of writing, or review dissertation structure without becoming overwhelmed.
Who the Lessons Are For:
My lessons are specifically designed for mature students returning to education via Access routes (such as Access to Nursing), HND Applied Psychology students, and BA Hons Undergraduate students seeking dissertation or coursework guidance.
Whether you are looking to rescue a summer referral assignment or prepare for a major transition into a higher education course this Autumn, our sessions will be entirely collaborative, supportive, and focused on your immediate academic targets."

I have had the pleasure of teaching alongside Tanya for the past two years and can highly recommend her as an exceptional educator and dedicated professional.
Tanya brings a wealth of knowledge and experience in psychology, alongside valuable business and industry experience, which really enriches her teaching. She has an excellent ability to bring subjects to life through real-world examples and scenarios, helping students connect theory to practice and develop a deeper understanding.
She is a highly motivated, knowledgeable and approachable professional who genuinely cares about her students. Her subject knowledge is excellent, and the pastoral support she provides is equally impressive. She goes above and beyond to support, encourage and inspire those she teaches.
Tanya's combination of academic knowledge, industry experience and genuine passion for teaching makes her an asset to any learning environment. I would not hesitate to recommend her!

Details
The initial 30-minute free consultation is conducted online via video call or phone. This time is used as a diagnostic session to review your specific assignment briefs, university marking rubrics, or dissertation outlines so we can map out a targeted study plan before our first paid lesson.
For local face-to-face lessons, I am based in Newquay and am happy to travel up to a 10-mile radius. I am fully flexible and happy to meet you at your home or in a quiet local café to conduct our sessions. A small travel surcharge is added to face-to-face lessons to cover fuel and travel time depending on your exact location.
Please note that block bookings (5-hour or 10-hour packs) must be paid for in advance. My hourly rate includes full access to my curated study skills guides, academic synthesis templates, and referencing checklists.
