About Derek
I am a private tutor that has been teaching and tutoring all subjects of math and science for 7 years. I like to think of myself as a personal trainer of academics. I graduated with a degree in 2013 from the University of California Berkeley, but I am going back to school right now at the University of Oregon. I hope to teach you that math and science can be fun, or at least to take the stress away from learning the subjects.

I tend to try to make everything I teach relatable to the real world, for I know that students ask "when is this going to be useful.” My goal is to get the student to a point where he/she/they will no longer need me.
The mentoring and life skills I provide are the most fun part of the tutoring for me.
With moch-tests, homework help, and general advising I become your coach on your way to academic success.

I have known Derek for more than a decade. He has always been a thoughtful, patient, and trustworthy teacher and friend. Anyone who meets and gets to work with him is lucky!
Derek was super great to work with, he worked with me and my busy schedule and was super supportive throughout our sessions. He helped me strengthen my math skills and celebrated my achievements with me.
Derek is an empathetic, intelligent individual who is passionate about math. I had the privilege of working and learning with them at university. They are knowledgeable, patient, and able to explain concepts from multiple perspectives to allow the learner to understand all the necessary concepts. Derek truly makes math approachable and fun!!
First time i understand maths. Thank you so much! Helped me a lot!!
With a fun outgoing personality! Derek makes math it easy to understand, instead of just getting through it. His great energy and out look on algebra kept me engaged and doing well!
I highly recommend Derek as a teacher. No matter your math abilities, Derek will find a way to present the material in an engaging and thorough manner.
