About Patrícia
I am originally Brazilian. I have a PhD in Comparative Literature from Northwestern University (Chicago, United States). I have been teaching English to all levels for over 12 years. I have worked at language schools in Brazil and volunteered at immigrant and refugee centers both in Chicago and Lisbon. I am certified by TOEFL, IELTS and Cambridge (CAE). I work with the four basic skills in my classes, but I focus mainly on the "communicative approach," making students speak a lot, learn new vocabulary and boost their oral competence.

I follow the guidelines developed by Cambridge University (The Common European Framework of Reference for Languages: A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, C2.) In my first class, I go for a detailed interview about students' needs so I can customize the materials. In collaboration with students, I suggest a schedule and studying resources that are more attuned with their needs and with what is best suited to their development and interests. In case you opt for virtual classes, I share materials via dropbox so students can have free access to them at their convenience. I also offer preparatory classes for the TOEFL and the Cambridge proficiency exams (FCE, CAE).
