About Camille
Hey there! I'm Camille, an award-winning researcher in biology and biophysics.
Before that though, I was a student struggling to keep up with my grades, uncertain whether I'd do anything with my biology bachelor's (I actually wanted to be a wildlife movie director). I was told in high school not to bother with university, but went for it anyway. It wasn't until the end of my B.Sc, and then my master's, that I felt what doing research actually feels like, and it woke something up in me. I got hooked on taming this nerdy world: formulating questions, testing hypotheses, wrangling data, and presenting it all with rigor, to figure out something nobody had figured out before! (and, just as often, how much we still don't know).
During my research journey, I spent months collecting complex, messy data, and learning to make sense of it. Statistics, R, Python became my daily tools: running tests, learning which test or model fits best question, and how to report it properly in the writing. I know what it's like to be unsure of your approach, and second-guess every decision. I learnt it the hard way, through trial and error. And I learnt how much of a difference close guidance makes (something not every supervisor gives you).
I finished my PhD in 3.5 years and published in Science and Nature Communications. Since then, I've supervised BSc, MSc, and PhD students, and helped colleagues untangle their data and shape it into a coherent story. Honestly, that's one of the challenge I get most excited about.
I'm on this platform because I wish someone had shown me, back then, what's possible with the right guidance and a bit of motivation.
I care about helping you get unstuck, wherever you are in your thesis, or in your stage of despair.
By the way, I'm French, and I've lived abroad for a good chunk of my life. Beside English and French, I also speak Spanish, if that helps.

The lesson is tailored to your vibe, your goals, and where you're at right now. We start with a free lesson where we chat about where you're at, what you're struggling with, and how I can help you.
Here are some examples of situations you might be in:
— you don't know which statistical test to use, or why
— your data is messy and you don't know how to clean it up or format it differently
— you can run the analysis but have no idea how to interpret the results
— R feels overwhelming and you need someone to walk you through it
And here are some examples of things I can help you achieve:
— Choose the right statistical approach for your data and design (and explain why)
- Guide you through data analysis in R (or Python), step by step
- Debug and clean up your analysis code
- Turn statistical output into a result you can actually report and interpret correctly in your thesis
- Make your figures more impactful, conveying a clear message
- Structure your results into a logical, compelling story
If you decide to go beyond the first free session, I will prepare the each session in advance and bring a few different approaches to try live, working directly with your data.
When you reach out, just tell me: your level, what software you're using, what kind of data you're working with, and your deadline.

Camille and I are former colleagues, sharing a background in evolutionary biology. He is an incredibly skilled writer who really has a knack for structuring a text in a clear, comprehensive, and concise way. Camille provided helpful feedback on my scientific manuscripts, helping me to shape my research background and scientific content in a way that is appropriate for my field but also makes my work approachable for a wider audience. I still use many of his helpful writing tips to improve all my manuscripts. I highly recommend him if you want to take your academic writing to the next level!
I have had the pleasure of being a student of Camille for six months, as he was my supervisor during my masters thesis. I remember starting this period with some insecurities about writing in general, and as it turns out, I couldn't have had a better supervisor than Camille.
Camille is a very patient tutor and always took the time I needed. He recognised that I was comparing my work to Nature papers and offered me to show me his own master thesis. His example was very helpful, and at one point I even began to see the fun in writing.
Besides learning that writing could be fun, Camille also really helped me in improving my writing skills. His constructive way of giving feedback made it not too bad to receive it, and he was always willing to work on pieces of text together. Camille showed me how to technically build up a piece of text, which type of sentence goes where, and how you can connect two pieces of text. He also showed me in which ways you can be playful while still being correct and professional with the language.
In addition to the actual writing Camille also thought me a lot of other things that were helpful during my thesis. He showed me how he keeps track of his references, how he looks for new literature, and how he organises the interesting parts of a paper. These are methods I am actually still using today. Exploring and decomposing the work of others together was also a practice Camille used to help me improve my writing skills. The basics of coding and making graphs in R studio are also things Camille is familiar with, and he was always more than happy to help me out.
As the cherry on top, my final master thesis was used by Camille as a foundation for an academic publication.
I would highly recommend Camille as a tutor for writing! With his help, I went from being insecure about writing to genuinely enjoying it.
At my current job as an entomology researcher I have to write a lot of proposals and reports. My team lead was so impressed by the first report I had written, he immediately told the director about my writing skills. Without Camille, I daresay that would not have happened!I highly recommend Camille’s mentoring. He supported me during my Master’s thesis, greatly improving the structure, hypotheses, and statistical analysis, while also boosting my confidence throughout the process.
I have had the pleasure of working closely with Dr. Camille Le Roy for several years, both as a postdoctoral researcher in my lab and during his PhD, where I served as co-advisor.
Camille is an outstanding scientist and an exceptionally skilled writer. He approaches scientific writing with clarity, precision, and a systematic mindset, which makes him an excellent mentor.
Camille is patient, organized, and highly supportive, qualities that make him a trustworthy and effective academic coach. He has a deep understanding of how to structure (scientific) arguments and communicate complex ideas in a clear and compelling way. I strongly recommend Camille to anyone seeking guidance in (academic) writing.View more recommendations
