About Aurik
I am currently a second year neuroscience student at the University of British Columbia aiming to complete my degree and then move on to higher education - perhaps a master's or medical school. I grew up in Calgary experiencing most of my educational journey there from elementary to high school. Throughout high school I always dreamed of traveling for university and exploring the world as I followed my career and passions, so I worked very hard so that I could make this dream come true! In high school I was a dramatist, athlete and academic having directed and acted in many plays and musicals, played various sports throughout my three high school years, and was recognized academically for my hard work! This being said I understand how stressful school can be and how frustrating it is when you fail or falter, or how overwhelming it can be when your schedule is packed and it feels like you can't do everything at once. I wholeheartedly understand and during these times I wished I had some guidance, both academically, career and life-wise. Through being a tutor I hope to ease at least a little bit of such burden and show you that it is all possible and that you are not alone in your struggles!

My teaching methods emphasize understanding rather than regurgitating and memorizing information. The best way to achieve academic success in my experience is changing the lens by which you are approaching it! Through truly understanding concepts for broader applications and the development of real transferable skills between subjects, the approach towards education changes from the pursuit of test scores towards the pursuit of knowledge driven by curiosity which in turn creates a sustainable method for achieving academic goals! Education and the lifelong pursuit of knowledge is an invaluable gift and reflecting upon my own journey thus far my mentors and teachers have made a significant impact in how I approached and interacted with knowledge and the world. I hope to do the same and show students that studying, academics and education as a whole is far more than scores on a paper, and I hope to encourage and inspire them as my own mentors have through my personal academic journey and what I have learned so far!
A typical lesson plan is tailored specifically towards the student's particular needs. I understand different students have different strengths, weaknesses, learning methods, and much more - so it is crucial to tailor specific lessons towards a student's specific goals, schedules and learning habits! Regardless my goal for making education worth pursuing is something that will always wholeheartedly manifest within my lessons. I am looking for high school level or below math, English, science, and social studies students to tutor!
