Oxford educated, highly experienced private tutor of Biology | A level | IGCSE/GCSE | Scholarship | University Entrance

I would highly recommend Martin as a Chemistry tutor. My daughter was really struggling with Edexcel IGCSE Chemistry and had lost confidence in her ability to understand the subject. We found Martin through Superprof and decided to give his tuition a try, which turned out to be one of the best decisions we made.

What I appreciate most about Martin’s teaching is his ability to explain difficult topics in a simple, clear and engaging way. He is extremely patient and takes the time to identify exactly where a student is struggling before building their understanding step by step. He also has a wonderful way of encouraging students without making them feel under pressure, which made a huge difference to my daughter’s confidence.

Over the course of her tuition, we saw a remarkable transformation. Topics that had once seemed impossible to her gradually started to make sense, and she became much more confident tackling exam questions. Seeing her go from feeling anxious and defeated about Chemistry to approaching her exam with real confidence was a fantastic experience for us as a family.

The end result speaks for itself — she passed her GCSE Chemistry exam with an 8, having been predicted a 5! We are incredibly grateful to Martin for his patience, expertise and genuine commitment to helping her succeed. I would wholeheartedly recommend him to any student looking for an excellent Chemistry tutor.

An excellent Chemistry tutor who really makes a difference

I came across Martin Scott when I was looking for a Chemistry tutor to support my son through his A-levels. From the very first lesson, it was clear that Martin has a real talent for explaining difficult concepts in a way that makes them much easier to understand.

What I appreciate most about Martin’s teaching is his ability to adapt to the student. He doesn’t simply work through the syllabus or provide answers; he takes the time to identify where my son is struggling and then explains things from a different angle until they click. He is patient, encouraging and approachable, while still maintaining a good level of academic challenge. His lessons have helped my son become much more confident, particularly when tackling unfamiliar exam questions.

One experience that really stands out was when my son was struggling with a particularly difficult topic and was becoming convinced that he simply “wasn’t a Chemistry person”. Martin patiently worked through the underlying principles with him and then gradually built up to some challenging exam questions. By the end of the session, my son was not only getting the questions right but was genuinely enthusiastic about the subject again. That change in confidence was fantastic to see as a parent.

I would have no hesitation in recommending Martin to any student studying A-level Chemistry. He combines excellent subject knowledge with patience, enthusiasm and a genuine ability to bring out the best in his students. He is a superb tutor and has made a real difference to my son’s progress and confidence.
