Find out more about Enrique

  • When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

I developed an interest in tutoring when I started nursing school. During that time, I realized how difficult the process of getting into nursing school could be, especially because I did not have anyone to guide or help me. Because of that experience, I became passionate about helping other students succeed and feel more supported during their journey.
  • Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

I teach preparation for the ATI TEAS and HESI A2 exams. I enjoy helping students understand the different sections of these tests, including math, science, reading comprehension, and test-taking strategies. I especially like breaking down science and math concepts so students can understand them more easily and feel confident when approaching exam questions.
  • Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

Yes, I had many professors who believed in me and encouraged me throughout my studies. They believed that if I worked hard and did my best, I could be successful. Their support made a big difference in my confidence and motivation. Because of their encouragement, I now want to help other students believe in themselves and pursue their dreams.
  • What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

I believe a good tutor should provide both encouragement and accountability. It is important to create a positive learning environment where students feel supported and motivated. Regular progress check-ins and structured lesson plans are also essential to help students stay on track and continue improving.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

During my time in school, I often studied difficult subjects by breaking them into smaller, easier steps. I also practiced many questions and reviewed mistakes carefully. This method helped me better understand complex topics and build confidence, which is something I now encourage my students to do as well.
  • What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or are still facing in your subject?

One challenge I faced was chemistry. At first, I struggled with the subject and found it difficult to understand. However, I realized that with effort, consistent practice, and determination, I could improve. Eventually, I was able to earn an A in my college chemistry class, which showed me that persistence and hard work truly pay off.
  • Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

My passion is teaching and helping others achieve their dreams. I enjoy supporting students as they work toward their goals and preparing them for their future careers.
  • What makes you a Superprof (besides answering these interview questions)?

What makes me a Superprof teacher is my structured teaching method and supportive approach. I begin with assessment-based instruction to identify each student’s strengths and weaknesses so we can focus on the areas that will make the biggest difference. I simplify complex concepts, especially in math and science, so they are easier to understand. My sessions include active practice, where we solve problems together and reinforce learning through repetition and feedback. I also teach test-taking strategies to help students manage time, avoid common traps, and increase accuracy during standardized exams like the TEAS and HESI A2. Finally, I provide encouragement and accountability to keep students motivated and progressing toward their goals.
