About Emily
I’m a recent college graduate of the Ohio State University with a B.S. in Materials Science and Engineering. I have experience working with students through substitute teaching and mentoring, and I’m comfortable supporting a wide range of learning styles and levels. I focus on making math and science feel approachable and less overwhelming by breaking concepts down into simple, clear steps. My goal is not just to help students get the right answer, but to make sure they understand why it works so they can apply it on their own.
In a typical session, I start by identifying what the student is struggling with, whether that’s a specific homework problem, a concept from class, or general test prep. From there, I walk through examples step-by-step, then have the student try similar problems with guidance until they feel confident. I also like to connect concepts to real-life examples when possible to make them more intuitive.
What sets me apart is my experience working with students in different settings, including substitute teaching and mentoring. I’m patient, supportive, and good at adjusting my explanations depending on how a student learns best. I also emphasize building confidence, since a lot of students struggle more with frustration or anxiety than the material itself.
My lessons are best suited for elementary through high school students, including those taking algebra, geometry, and general science courses. I’m also happy to help with homework, test preparation, and building strong foundational skills.
