About Macauley
I'm Mac, a Computer Science teacher based in Blackpool. I came into teaching from a design and web development background, completing my degree at the University of Plymouth before qualifying as a teacher through a school-based training route. I've now spent six years teaching Computer Science and IT.
Alongside teaching I mark exam papers and I build free revision resources for Computer Science students — worksheets, walkthroughs and practice papers that I write and use with my own classes.
What keeps me in this subject is watching the moment something clicks. Computer Science has a reputation for being difficult, and it can be, but most of the difficulty comes from how it's explained rather than the ideas themselves. My job is to find the explanation that works for you, not to repeat the one that didn't.

I'm a qualified Computer Science teacher with six years' experience in the classroom, currently teaching A-Level Computer Science. I also work as an examiner for OCR, marking both GCSE and A-Level papers each summer.
That examining work shapes how I tutor. I know exactly where marks are won and lost, which is usually not where students expect. A technically correct answer that misses the command word scores nothing, and most students lose more marks to exam technique than to gaps in knowledge.
Lessons run for one hour and are built around whatever you're finding hardest — algorithms and pseudocode, object-oriented programming or Big O notation. I'll set a short diagnostic task at the start so we're not guessing at what needs attention, then work through past paper questions with live feedback on how a marker would actually read your response.
Suitable for GCSE and A-Level. I teach online or in person (Lancashire), and I'm happy to work with parents who want progress updates.
