About Selim
I am currently on a research stint at NYU Center for Data Science, studying the theoretical underpinnings of AI. Prior to this, I completed my studies in Switzerland, at EPFL for undergrad and ETHZ for Master's (the alma mater of Albert Einstein!). Specifically, throughout my studies, I was hired for 3 years as a Teaching Assistant for diverse undergrad and grad level courses in Computer Science and Math. Moreover, I worked privately as a tutor for family friends who had children struggling in Math in secondary school.

I see learning science as a personal journey, unique to each student. My priority is firstly to understand the learning style of the student, what they currently understand, and what specific topics they might struggle with. I continuously ask questions to the student in a discussion format to better understand how they frame a problem. We then overview the relevant core topics, and gauge the student's understanding. Once the student is comfortable with the material, we can then move on to concrete exercises, where I first give the student space to tackle the problem, and we then solve it, again in a dialogue format where the student may articulate their thought process and difficulties. With years of experience as a Teaching Assistant, I focused on developing my ability to actively listen to students, their needs, and how to adapt my teaching style. Every student learns differently, and over time I have learned how to adapt my explanations and discussions to the student.
