About Zach
I'm a versatile, passionate and dedicated educator with years of experience teaching hundreds of students at every academic level, whether in-class at publicly funded institutions, 1-on-1 during private tutoring sessions, or as a volunteer for young ESL immigrants.
I know anyone and everyone can do math, it's natural to all of us and is one of humanity's greatest tools! Regardless of natural talent, everyone reaches their "math limit" and needs to spend time going deeper into the language of math before they can understand that concept. I've seen first-hand how even a previous classmate who, at 9 years old, was a 4.0 student in my top 25 ranked physics program reached his limit and needed to begin the hard work of learning.
While I may have been in advanced math and science courses throughout my life, I am not the person who instantly understood every concept without difficulty. I had to spend time struggling with countless math problems to become fluent in it; and taught myself concrete strategies to improve my understanding, that have proven themselves in my grades.
As a student with learning disabilities myself, I always treat my students with compassion and patience; I also teach actually successful strategies that keep me and my students engaged and curious without burnout. We must learn to properly channel our built-in advantage of extreme focus/productivity during crisis and/or build systems to achieve the seemingly unachievable (at least for me): consistency. Additionally, I have experience navigating the IEP/504 Plan, collegiate DRCs, and SAT/ACT accommodation access if you're curious about these highly beneficial programs.

My foremost educational goal for you is to remove your fear and/or frustration with math and science! I specialize with high school & college students that have learning disabilities or who may have struggled with math or physics for a long time.
I try many teaching styles each time you struggle with a concept to find what works best for you. However, my consistent principle is never to simply give you the answer, but to guide you to the answer by asking you questions about what you know! The point of my instruction is NOT that you know 2+2=4, but that you know HOW 2+2=4 so you can apply this concept in another context.
I believe that the only way excel in STEM is by repeatedly explaining your understanding of each underlying concept used to answer the problem. All of us can answer these physics problems intuitively, but we can struggle to formalize it since we're forced to speak a language we don't fully know: Math.
Doing physics is easy when you're thinking about experiences you've had in the real world, but is hard when you have to translate that experience to math. I will teach you to be fluent in math by relating it to your passions so you can have the confidence to tackle any translation that you may see.
