About Alan
Hi, my name's Alan I am a fourth year medical student at the University of Birmingham. I have been tutoring on various tutoring sites since first year and have come across a plethora of students. At A-levels I did biology, chemistry and maths all of which I excelled in and even dabbled in further maths. This gives me a good understanding of how exam boards like their answers and it has aided me in explaining things to students. I understand things at a basic level at first and then build on it and this also seems to work with my students so I reflect myself a lot in how I teach. I also have a background in business and have run a few startups or helped with business advice. I have performed well in the UCAT and can tutor this and can also help with medical school MMI prep. My lessons are structured in a way that I initially test the student's knowledge to see how much they know about a topic. I then move on from this and then will go through content that the student doesn't understand and will finish off with a set of exam style questions to help students to write answers in the future. I also have experience teaching those with learning disabilities so making things more engaging than my normal lesson or allowing the student time to process are both things that I can adapt and I can continue to adapt my teaching style to match my student.
