About Xiaoyu
I'm a Master student at the University of Melbourne. I finished my undergraduate degree in America majoring in Economics. I'm from Beijing, China. I'm a very patient person who love to help others with what I'm capable of. I love talking to people from different backgrounds because I think that will broaden my scope as well. I could be a good friend outside of class and maintain professionalism during the lesson. I'm an easy going person who you will find very easy to talk to.

I will start from the most basic Pinyin for entry level students, letting them know the different components of pronunciation. I will guide students with the pronunciation again and again until they are familiar with the way and able to pronounce most Pinyin they see. After that, I will introduce them to characters and teach them how to practice using copybooks. At the same time, simple conversation and greetings are good starts to let student gain confidence speaking this language and get motivation of learning it further. Adding simple and daily conversation to the lesson will benefit their learning a lot.
My typical length of a lesson is ideally an hour. The progress of learning depends more on the frequency of the lesson because language needs to be practiced very often.
I have more than one year of experience as a Chinese tutor when I was in college in America. I tutored a student twice a week for more than a year, until I was back to China. He was interested in Chinese after my tutoring and started to watch Chinese TV drama to further develop Chinese on his own.
My lessons are for any level and any age students. My native language gained me enough knowledge in Chinese, which could help students who need more advanced level of tutoring. However, as a second language speaker of English, I know how one feels to learn a new language with both my experience of learning English and tutoring. I believe I'm capable to help entry level students as well.
