About Achintya

I studied Politics at King’s College London before completing a Master’s in Law at The University of Law with a Distinction, and I am now working towards a career as a solicitor. Outside academics, I enjoy sport, fashion and art, and I’ve always liked finding ways to make complicated ideas feel more relatable and easier to understand.

I’ll also be upfront: I don’t have years and years of formal teaching experience. What I do have is experience mentoring and tutoring GCSE and A-Level students, including students from underprivileged communities, as well as neurodivergent students. Those experiences taught me a lot about adaptation, communication and meeting people where they are, rather than assuming one approach will work for everyone.

A big reason I want to teach comes from my own experience as a student. Growing up, I often felt that lessons were delivered in one fixed way, and if that way didn’t suit how your brain processed information, you were simply expected to keep up. I found that visual learning, modern examples, discussion and breaking ideas down into smaller stages helped me far more. That is the kind of tutor I want to be for someone else.

I think my fresher approach is actually a strength. I remember what it feels like to be the student who understands something only once it is explained differently. I want to be able to spot that quickly, adapt the lesson, and make even a dull or intimidating topic feel manageable and relevant. If one explanation doesn’t work, I’ll try another.

Ultimately, I want students to leave with more than just a better mark. I want them to build a system for learning that works for them personally, and that they can carry into future exams, university and whatever they choose to do next.

My academic and professional experiences have taught me how to take complex information, work out what really matters, and communicate it in a clear way. Through both legal and financial work, I have had to explain ideas carefully, and adapt how I communicate depending on the audience. I also hold a Grade 8 LAMDA Public Speaking Distinction, which has helped me develop the confidence and communication skills to support students not only in their written work, but also in expressing their ideas clearly and confidently.

My lessons have a clear structure, but the way I teach within that structure is tailored to the individual student. I normally start by reviewing the material in advance so I understand the topic, exam requirements and where the likely areas of difficulty may be. At the beginning of the lesson, I check what the student already understands, what they are unsure about and how confident they feel with the topic.

From there, I break the lesson into stages. I explain the concept clearly, work through examples with the student in a way which sticks in their brain, ask targeted questions to check understanding, and then gradually move towards independent practice. I do not simply give the answer. I want the student to understand the reasoning behind it and develop a method they can use again on their own.

The same lesson can look very different depending on the student. One student may benefit from diagrams and modern examples, colour-coding or breaking a task into smaller steps; another may respond better to discussion, repetition, model answers or timed practice. For students with ADHD, dyslexia or anxiety, I adjust pace, task length, structure and the way information is presented so they are not being forced into a learning style that does not work for them.

I also build in regular recap and retrieval throughout the lesson, rather than waiting until the end, so I can see whether the student has genuinely understood and retained the material. I finish by reviewing what we have covered, identifying what still needs work and agreeing on a clear next step.

Whether I am teaching 7+, 11+, 13+, or GCSE, my aim is the same: to make the lesson feel purposeful and enjoyable, while ensuring the student is being taught in the way that helps them understand, retain and apply the information most effectively.
