About Jaxson
I am a recent graduate of Swarthmore College and will be pursuing a master's degree in the fall. As an undergraduate, I studied Chinese language in addition to my major, and have achieved an intermediate level of proficiency. I advanced rapidly and excelled in these courses, and will continue to study the language.
I have also participated in Swarthmore's Chinese Music Ensemble, which allowed me to explore Chinese culture.

Initial lessons will focus on the "sounds" present in the Chinese language: tones, initials and finals, and tone combinations. Once these basic speaking techniques are understood, students will be introduced to basic vocabulary, including pinyin and characters. I am studying traditional Chinese but am familiar with the simplified versions of beginner-level characters, so I can teach in either or both.
Students will learn proper stroke order. New characters will be divided into logical units and I will focus on building a useable vocabulary, with the potential for students to guide some lessons toward their own interests.
