About Emily
I hold an Honours BA in English from the University of Toronto, and my former English & History teachers still keep copies of my essays to use as examples for students.
I have a long career in journalism, marketing and communications with many published articles and reviews. I am also an author with two manuscripts in development, and an in-demand poet that performs around the city!
I've been blessed to have a natural talent with words, but I have put a great deal of time into cultivating that in a number of areas. I believe that a good writer needs to keep surprising herself, and a good teacher needs to show a student they can surprise themselves too.

I take a multi-level approach, usually beginning with outlining the structure of a piece of writing before zooming into the paragraph and sentence level.
It's important to help people understand how to PUT THEIR WORDS TO WORK. Your words can be productive, effective employees for you, or they can stand around waiting for the clock to run out.
I will guide you through the process of identifying your strongest central idea and using each paragraph to build persuasively on the last, with each sentence guiding your reader closer and closer to your point.
It is important to me that my students come away feeling energized and empowered by the lesson. So many intelligent students can feel miserable and frustrated at the idea of completing an essay. I want to de-mystify the formula for you so that you can make it your own.
