I came to John having taken two years of interruption, due to illness, from studying english literature at university. I was incredibly anxious, very behind on my course and had, because of the illness, struggled to enjoy learning for a long time. He has managed to do the two things that really excellent teachers do: make me feel excited about literature and ideas again, and put me at ease in tutorials so that I never have to feel that what I'm saying is stupid or irrelevant. Alongside that, on a more practical level, he is incredibly flexible and generous with his time, always prepared, fantastically knowledgeable about both the work and the university system and has also been really great at helping me to manage my time and work in a productive way (which for someone who has dyspraxia and dyslexia is fairly difficult). I feel very lucky to have found him as a tutor and would absolutely recommend him to anyone reading this
