I feel as though I am very good at explaining things from multiple perspectives, so if students don’t fully understand it the first time around, I will show them different techniques! If given the topic(s) of discussion beforehand, I will come prepared with a list of practice problems for the student to work on. This list will incorporate all general problems related to the subject along with more difficult problems. After teaching the topic to the student and observing them as they work through the practice problems, I will then identify the student’s weak points and begin asking them questions about their thought process in order to figure out what they’re not understanding. This most often involves more practice problems related to the areas of weakness. I find that being close in age to my clients helps them feel more comfortable and connected with me, which allows me to more effectively keep their attention while teaching them topics!
