About Carina Louise
Hi! I'm Carina, a recent biological sciences graduate from the University of California, Irvine, with a passion for helping students gain confidence in science. Throughout college, I discovered that memorizing information is much less helpful to learning than I had previously believed. To really understand material, you must understand the underlying concepts, and this is the approach I bring to every tutoring session.
In addition to my academic background, I have over 3,500 hours of experience as a medical assistant, where I have been able to apply my academic knowledge in a clinical setting. This allows me to connect classroom topics to real life, enhancing the engagement of the class.
I have experienced the challenges of learning science myself, so I am able to provide a firsthand experience of the learning. My goal is to foster a supportive and encouraging environment where students feel comfortable making mistakes and learning from them. Whether it is grade repair, exam prep, or just a difficult topic, I am committed to helping you succeed.

Trying to memorize every fact in science is hard, and I know that firsthand. My goal is to help students truly understand the concepts behind the material, not just words on paper.
As a recent graduate and medical assistant, I can understand both the academic and real-life applications of biology and other scientific disciplines. I enjoy breaking down concepts that I struggled with in school to make them more student-friendly.
I will personalize every lesson to our specific learning goals. Be it exam prep, homework, or practice problems, we will work together at a pace that is comfortable for you. Sessions will include diagrams, practice problems, active recall, and real-life applications to make the learning more meaningful. I will also provide study strategies and resources to help students retain information, even after the class has completed.
A typical lesson includes the following:
- Reviewing any challenging topics or questions
- An in-depth explanation of the topic
- Working through practice problems together
- Progress checks using quiz-style questions
- Creating a study plan for success outside of session
I strive to create an environment where students feel comfortable reaching out for additional help, and I want to guide each student to be the best version of their academic selves. I look forward to helping you tackle your academic goals!
