About Pearl
I've been referred to as a math wizard, a patient Jedi master, and a friendly Turing (math genius - Alan Turing). That last one is definitely a stretch!
I like to make learning fun so that you forget you're actually working your brain muscles. I bring my best to each tutoring session hoping you feel motivated to bring your best. I'm an expert in Maths, a compassionate educator, and an inspiring mentor.
My degree at Victoria University of Wellington is a BSc majoring in Mathematics. To study math, you have to have a love for learning. I either have that, or so much determination I despise failing.

In my tutoring sessions, I blend the excitement of learning with the effectiveness of tried-and-true teaching methods. My goal is to make each lesson a fun and engaging experience for my students while ensuring they reach the top 10% of their class. Here's how I do it:
Practice and Application: Learning is an adventure, and we embark on it together. I firmly believe that practice makes perfect. We'll tackle concepts, solve problems, and explore real-world applications of what we're learning. Whether it's algebra, trigonometry, or statistics, we'll roll up our sleeves and dive into hands-on activities that bring the subject to life.
Feedback and Adaptation: Think of our sessions as treasure hunts for knowledge. I provide constructive feedback that's not only insightful but also motivating. As we progress, I tailor our lessons to meet the students evolving needs. If a particular approach isn't working for you, we'll change course and find a way that clicks, because learning should be an adventure, not a chore.
My lessons typically run for one thrilling hour. It's just the right amount of time to dig deep into a subject while keeping the enthusiasm high. My preference would be to catch up with the student twice a week, to ensure we're making progress.
With four years of tutoring experience in Wellington, New Zealand, I've had the pleasure of guiding high school students through the NCEA exams (equivalent to HSC). I've also worked with students of all ages in primary and high school. My extensive experience has been a journey in itself, allowing me to fine-tune my methods and understand the unique needs of students learning Maths.

Maths was by a long shot my worst subject, but with Pearl’s tutoring I did better in my tests than I could’ve imagined! She’s very kind, friendly, and knows how to adapt tutoring styles for people with different learning styles :)
