About Jim
My name is Jim Chen. I have 6 years of experience teaching civil and environmental engineering at the university level. My areas of expertise in tutoring are: math, science, and English. I have extensive experience teaching and producing work in these topics. I have published 13 journal articles in scientific journals, 2 book chapters, and 6 conference papers. My publications demonstrate my abilities in science and engineering, as well as, English writing. I am professional in my approach to teaching while at the same time I like to have a friendly, fun, and nurturing environment for the students to learn.

My approach to tutoring is to work with students with care and patience. I progress at their learning pace. I try to be a good mentor to them and nurture their way towards learning the topics. I build confidence in the students by slowly guiding them towards being able to solve the problems independently. A typical lesson of mine is 30 to 60 minutes. Levels of the lesson are primary and secondary school (ages 10 to 18) and university (ages 18 to 22).
Topics for tutoring are: Maths, English, Sciences
My qualifications include former Assistant Professor in Environmental Engineering where I taught lectures at the university level. Also, I have a Doctor of Philosophy in Environmental Engineering and Master of Science in Chemical Engineering from Yale University. Furthermore, I have a Master of Science and a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of California Los Angeles.
