About Finlay
I teach year 7-11. I am a first-class student at the University of Manchester, studying law, and I have tutored for the past two years. I was awarded 'Best English Tutor' after 3 months at my agency, amongst 300 possible tutors. Broadly, whether you achieve in academics relates to three factors: (i) confidence, (ii) memory and (iii) technique. A good tutor ought to encourage a focus on all three. This is certainly how I approach my lessons.
I am intensely patient and kind; I know how to rephrase an explanation in a million different ways. I aim to cover all the fundamentals in absolute detail, and then zoom in on the specifics. I find fundamentals to be neglected heavily by most teachers and tutors, and I aim to encourage a solid grounding in the first instance. In this stage, we boost your confidence to levels you could not imagine: you will prove yourself to have a competent, rational mind that is capable of dealing with any issue thrown at it. Once you prove this to yourself, I will push you. You will grasp the minute details of the subject, and I will guide you every step of the way, with nothing but patience.
I aim to deliver information in the simplest way possible, and I aim to be as efficient as I possibly can.
I have a proven track record in tutoring -- awarded the best English tutor in my agency -- with kids of all ages (year 7 to 11) always going up at least 3 grades. Why is this? Because I know how to target your errors. I have given my notes and techniques to my brothers, all of whom have received 9s across the board in their subjects. I know exactly how to play the examiner's game, and I want to make sure your teacher doesn't hold you back.
Let me be clear: I won't give you an easy ride. I want you to feel stretched by the end of our lessons. But I can promise you that you will improve, and I can promise you that you will do so quickly. If you want to improve, and you are willing to help yourself, you will take on plenty of information from me.
