About Sarah
Hi there!
I am an English Literature graduate with a first-class degree (honours), currently undertaking an MA in 'Literature and Culture' expected to graduate to the same high standard. With a strong background in teaching, I have gained experience working as a Teaching Assistant in a Junior school, tutored for GCSE English Language exams, taught swimming lessons to both adults and children, first-aid skills to teenagers and set up a book club in a pub (!), you can be sure that I am able to approach each individual with the relevant approach, experience and enthusiasm.
My undergraduate degree led me to specialise in American Literature with my dissertation focusing on the short stories of Ernest Hemingway. I continued in this vein into my post-graduate study with my final extended research project concentrating on a contemporary American novel 'A Little Life'. Having said this, I have studied a variety of literary genre's and periods including, but not limited to, 'Euro Crime Fiction', 'Children's Literature', 'Modernism' and literature regarding the #BlackLivesMatter movement. My studies have afforded me the knowledge to assist with comprehension skills, essay planning/writing, revision help, research methods, analytical skills and the ability to write in a coherent and professional manner, perfect for University entrance letters and CV's.
It is also worth noting that I spent the first year of my degree completing a combined course of English Literature, Creative Writing and Religious Studies and so am equipped to offer support and guidance in these subjects also.
Most importantly, I am able to tailor my experience to the needs of the individual through engaging and thought provoking sessions which hold the primary aim of boosting confidence and fostering a love of literature and learning.

Due to the variety of people and projects with which I am able to assist, my teaching methods will change accordingly. It is most important for me to discover the learning style which best suits the student and use this to make the process fun and beneficial.
Throughout my years of study, I have found that the best teachers are those who are able to make texts relevant to modern society and contemporary ideas, regardless of the textual era and this is something I aim to do with each lesson. Further, following the example of my best professors, I never claim to have all of the answers and am genuinely intrigued to hear the opinions and ideas of those I am working with.
