About Amanda
Hi, I’m Amanda—a veteran English and reading teacher with 24 years of classroom experience and a heart-centered approach to helping students succeed. I specialize in tutoring upper elementary through middle school students, particularly those who are struggling readers, neurodivergent learners, or kids who’ve simply lost confidence in their abilities.

️ My Teaching Method & Techniques I don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all strategy. My approach is grounded in explicit instruction, guided practice, and meaningful connection. Whether we’re tackling reading comprehension, writing structure, vocabulary, or fluency, I meet each student where they are—both academically and emotionally. My sessions often blend: Evidence-based strategies like reciprocal teaching, close reading, and visualization Scaffolded support that gradually shifts responsibility to the student A focus on metacognition—helping students understand how they think and learn Warm encouragement to help rebuild self-esteem in struggling learners A Typical Lesson Plan Each session is personalized, but here’s a general flow: Check-In & Goal Setting (5 min) – A quick connection to focus our session. Mini-lesson (10–15 min) – Targeted instruction on a key skill or concept. Guided Practice (15–20 min) – Reading, writing, or discussing together with real-time support. Independent Practice (5–10 min) – The student works more independently while I observe and guide. Reflection & Wrap-Up (5 min) – Celebrating growth, noting patterns, and planning next steps. Homework is optional and based on the student’s and family’s preferences. What Sets Me Apart I’ve taught thousands of students, but I never forget that each one is completely unique. What sets me apart is my ability to: Connect deeply and authentically with reluctant learners Adjust my language, tone, and energy to match each student’s needs Make reading feel safe, joyful, and achievable again Bring in creative strategies, especially for gifted students Who I Work With My lessons are designed for: Grades 4–9 Students who are reading or writing below grade level Gifted and neurodivergent learners (ADHD, ASD, anxiety, etc.) Kids who need help with comprehension, writing, fluency, vocabulary, or reading stamina Students preparing for state tests, middle school transitions, or literary analysis Whether your child needs a confidence boost or a complete academic reset, I’m here to help—with skill, patience, and heart.
