About Yakov

I love to teach. I think the violin is the best instrument. It is a real pleasure to see how a student develops an understanding and love for music.

I try to share my experience with the students so that hopefully they find the same passion and joy in the magic of music.

I work with all levels:

• Beginners- Learn to read music, understand the musical instrument, acquire basic skills

• Amateur Musicians- Polish your technique, get inspired by a deeper understanding of music

• Music Students and Performers- Prepare for orchestra auditions, and competitions, improve your professional skills and musical ability

I hold a Ph.D. in Music from the Moscow State Conservatory and was a founder and conductor at Violin Ensembles, Chamber and Symphony Orchestras in Europe and the USA.

Dr. Yakov Voldman holds a a Ph.D. in Music from the Moscow State Conservatory. Throughout the years Dr. Voldman has published a number of articles for professional music educator associations. Dr. Voldman worked with the Moldova State Symphony Orchestra and was also the founder and music director of the Moldova State Violin Ensemble, which gave concerts in a number of European countries. The ensemble recorded a large repertoire of classical music for State Radio and Television. During this period Dr. Voldman was also a professor of violin and conductor of the Chamber and Symphony orchestra at the Kishinev State Conservatory.

Since 1992 he has been involved with the Southeastern Louisiana University as a Professor of violin and director of SLU Chamber Orchestra. Dr. Voldman built the university’s string program from scratch and brought it to its current success. Under Dr. Voldman’s direction, the SLU Chamber Orchestra has performed a number of concerts with world-famous soloists. Through the years a number of Dr. Voldman’s students have won awards at state and national competitions.

Then I will try to explain my approach to teaching piano.

Perfect! Yakov is an amazing and talented violin teacher. He taught us so much in the past few years, and even throughout the pandemic, we still learned a lot through online lessons. After 3 years of private lessons with his help, we became better than most students who learned for 3 years, even though we learned during the pandemic. He taught us a lot of skills for violin and lots more about life skills and even physics through our violin lessons! A few skills he taught us, like playing with emotion and practicing naturally while playing with good quality, made us better performers and violinists. Under his instruction, we performed a Vivaldi Concert with the piano, are currently practicing a J.S.Bach Concerto in D minor for two violins, and completed a professional audition. He helped us through the audition within 2 weeks (other people typically had 2 months) and got us ready. His amazing explanations helped us understand more about the violin and how to improve on our skills. In the three years we have had his private lessons, we are thankful that he is our violin teacher.

Perfect! Voldman music is pretty much a retired couple who has been in music all their lives. We really appreciate their passion for music and their high level of skills in inspiring and teaching our kids. We've tried other piano teachers. This is definitely the best that we have. They teach at a level of music understanding and appreciation significantly higher than any average piano teachers. They also made the lessons fun and always very encouraging to kids.
