About Wendy
I am one of those rare people that gets to say I love my job! I can't even express the thrill I get from helping my students improve and achieve their goals.
Vocal Image Music Studios was started in May of 1996 after I graduated from SUNY Oswego with a BA in vocal performance. I continued my education with a pursuit in music education at The College of Saint Rose. Between private instruction and higher education, I have received eleven years of vocal training with a concentration in classical and Broadway techniques along with exposure to jazz, rock, and pop. Countless students have been taught by me over the years either through private studio instruction or vocal coaching/music directing former Mayfield drama productions, The Glove Theater productions, and Broadalbin-Perth drama productions. My students have gone on to study music, pusue fulfilling careers in music, chase their Broadway dreams, and have even brought their own children to study with me.
I have three children of my own but in reality every student who walks through my studio door becomes my child no matter their age. My goal is to teach and prepare each and every student to the best of my ability so that they can reach their goals. Sometimes it's building confidence, sometimes it's preparing for college, and sometimes it's just living to sing and wanting to do it better.
I love hearing my students progress as they study and accomplishing pieces of music that were difficult when they started and having them say "Hey! That was easy!" The more technique they accomplish, the easier singing becomes. Their smiling faces are priceless!
The girl next door to where I grew up came to me after I got home from my first year of college and asked if I could help her because she got a part in a summer drama production and she had to sing a song and she had no idea how to sing. I was hooked after her first session and when I returned for my third year of college I even took on a beginner student for my professor so that she could asses how I do as a vocal instructor. Needless to say I passed with her approval.
Through private instruction and higher education, I have recieved 11 years of vocal instruction. I have now been teaching lessons since 1996 and have even done vocal coaching/music directing for Mayfield and Broadalbin-Perth drama productions as well as productions at The Glove Theater and Colonial Little Theater.

I generally start with getting the student comfortable with me and asking questions about their desire to sing and share a little about myself. Then I check their natural range through warm-ups and then introduce singer's breathing.
All types! From beginner to advanced. From age 6 to 76. Males. Females. Boys. Girls.
First make sure they have a degree in music where voice was their major! Second you should see results fairly quickly. (first month or two) If you don't, then you are with the wrong instructor and its time to find a new one. Sometimes students and instructors just don't mesh so you need to find one that you can connect well with.
Several this past year! A community production of 13 the musical was done last spring and several of my students were cast. I attended and was blown away by them! I was so proud of them!
The spring recital that I hold every year where my graduating senior was showcased. It was thrilling to see her share all she's learned over the years of training.
My wedding held during the summer. I got to sing with my husband and it was truly a magical moment I will never forget!
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
1. Are you being realistic with your needs? For example, not everyone is going to be on Broadway or a Rockstar. Don't go into your lessons thinking that this is what's going to guarentee your success. You are recieving tools to help you on your way. Your teacher is there to guide you in their area of expertise. The rest is up to you.
2. Are your needs exceeding what your instructor offers? Do you need coaching or instruction or both? Does your instructor offer what you're looking for?

Details
Lessons are $25 for 30 minute sessions held once a week. I offer a monthly tuition to make it easier for people to budget which is $83/month at the moment. During the summer I have a five week course I offer every year for those who want to try lessons to see what they're like. The cost for that session is $125.
