About Leah
I have a Bachelor's of Fine Arts Degree in Ceramics and a Master's Degree in Education. I have been teaching art for over 10 years to every age group from elementary to middle, high school, college, and senior populations. I love to create art. I have done professional art shows and sold my work to clients in different industries.
My favorite time is spent on the potter's wheel. I have a tremendous passion for every aspect of working with clay. I love to build by hand, throw, fire kilns, and glaze using many different techniques. I can share with you any technique you are interested in learning. Often students find an image of something on Pinterest and ask me how to create it. Clay is magical in that you can make a lump of mud into literally anything.
I am happy to host you in my beautiful home studio which features 5 potter's wheels, a huge kiln, and all the glazes you can imagine. I can also bring a potter's wheel and the necessary equipment to your house for a private lesson or a small party. Thus the name, Potter's Wheels on the Go.
There is nothing more meditative or relaxing than sitting down to the potter's wheel with a clear mind and an intent to create only what you or the clay decide is right. From cups, to mugs, plates, bowls, or vases the journey is mezmorizing and the end product can last for centuries to come.
I have been teaching since I was 15 years old. I started as a volunteer art assistant in various community programs and then worked my way up through college as an intern in public and private school settings. I then taught for over a decade at the elementary, middle, high school, and college level. I presently teach at a few local retirement centers in addition to giving private art lessons and maintaining a professional art stuidio and business full time.
I have a Bachelor's Degree in Fine Art specilizing in Ceramics from Michigan State University. I also have a Master's Degree in Education with a focus on Special Educaiton for Autism from the University of Kansas. I love working with people from all walks of life, age groups, and interest ranges.

We usually have an introductory session where I ask the student what he or she is hoping to learn. I tailor that lesson and all the others based on exactly what his or her wishes are at the time. We can start with handbuilding or throwing on the potter's wheel. Then we will learn to glaze and fire the kiln. Each new question and inquiry leads us to our next project.
I have taught everyone from teeny tiny tikes ages 4 years old to the wisest elders in our community at over 90 years old. I have taught both in private, small group and large group instruction settings.
I always allow the student's curiosity to drive what we make. Art can take many different paths and some people may be drawn more strongly in one direction than another. We will follow YOUR passion and interests. I am just here to show you practical ways to make your vision come to life. Take time to allow yourself to experiment as you begin to try working with clay. Don't be afraid of everthing falling apart and collapsing. It will happen at least once. Have fun with with it and try to turn your mishaps into miracle artistic masterpeices. You never know what the clay will reveal to you!
Last Valentine's Day, I orchestarted over 300 elementary school students to create a paper mural made up of over 10,000 hand cut paper hearts to illustrate the image of sunset over the ocean. The mural was 6 feet tall and 18 feet long. It was on display for the recovering children and mothers at Florida Children's Hospital.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Decide how often or for how long a period you are intersted in working on this new passion of yours. Art takes time to develop but it can also be something that is a stepping stone to discovering something else you are interested in pursing. Look at every experience as an opportunity to grow and expand your creativity. Your greatest artistic revelations may be just a few artworks away!

Leah has been coming to our house for a few months now. I have a very active, creative 7 year old boy. He loves working with Leah to make the creatures of his imagination come to life. She always has plenty of materials for my son to use and whenever she arrives with new finished work, its like Christmas morning for my son! Our private pottery lessons are some of the most special moments we have at home together.
Leah is so patient and kind. I was able to ask her literally anything about the potter's wheel, new techniques, and challenges I was experiencing. Details
Yes, typically a 1 hour private session in my stuidio is $75. If I travel to your house the cost is $150 and includes my bringing all the equipment and supplies to your house as well as my firing all the artwork and returning it to your house the following week.
I also offer small group instruction and parties. Groups of 1-3 students for 1.5 hours cost $350. Small group instruction can take place in my studio or at your house. Groups of 4-10 students, Birthday parties, or Ladies Nights-In cost $650. These large group sessions include my bringing all the equipment, supplies and materials to you as well as firing all the artwork and returning it to you the following week.
