About Samuel
I have 4 years of experience teaching art at some of the most underserved schools in Texas. I have a nack for getting people, even those in tough situations, to use art as a tool for feeling a sense of pride and accomplishment. My approach to learning is based on imagination, exploration and mastery of the tools to make the ideas come to life. I am a multi discipline artist; I sculpt, paint, draw digitally, 3D print, video edit, create music, program led lights and wood work. I use all of these different art forms in different combinations to create projects that nourish my desire to create things that make the world a more fun interesting place!
I get to take all the things in the world that fascinate me, and make me feel deeply and roll them all into a neat package that encapsulates those emotions in an east to digest ways. Art makes big ideas easier to feel and I believe that is what develops the human races understanding of the world and each other.
After I got my bachelors in film, I wanted to do some thing that integrated me into society and benefited my city in a meaningful way. I apply to jobs with a Americorps all over the country and was accepted in Austin Texas.
I have a bachelors degree in film and Animation, and Arts Tech with a minor in education. And I have 4 yesrs experience tesching in-person afterschiool lessons both in a large classroom and also privately.

First, we would go over their interests. I would start by asking them. What kind of things they are into. They may say things like animals or football. Next, I would ask them what kind of art they like to do or what kind of art they would like to do. All the while I am taking notes, and trying to make connections between their interests and the art medium that they like. Once I get an idea of what kind of person they are, we would begin with small exercises and lessons about different techniques. This will just serve as a baseline for what we will delve into. Using what I observed from the baseline lessons, and the aforementioned talks. I will begin to steer the lessons and exercises towards a final product of some sort just like in the creative process, we will not know exactly what it is until we want to make until we get a little bit down the road. I would say at about 8 sessions we should start seeing what we want to do for the bigger, more comprehensive project. I have had students in the past that required more development and opted to focus more on lessons and exercises as opposed to a final project. I leave that to the student and their parents to decide how they want to handle that.
I have worked with students, aged 5 to 17. I primarily worked in elementary schools in underserved neighborhoods around the Austin area. The schools were mixed in demographics. There were cultures of all types, but primarily Hispanic and caucasions.
Find a teacher that has lots of experience in all types of art. In our modern time, we have a lot of tools to assist us in creating art. The trend nowadays in the job field is generalists. So having a general knowledge of how many our practices works is very valuable.

Sam made art making about having fun! I was raised to feel like I had to make art that had to look a certain way. Sam taught me that art is about expressing myself and sometimes it takes some exploring during the art making process to find the expression, that it’s okay to not know exactly what something will look like at the end. Interesting enough he also provided me with tools for better planning ideas as well

Details
Each lesson is 45 dollars an hour and a 30 dollar lesson planning fee, coming out to 75 dollars per lesson ( option to extend lessons past an hour for added amount)
