About Caitlin
I am an experienced independent tutor and have been tutoring full-time for the past two years. I have a PhD in Biochemistry, Molecular, and Cell Biology from Cornell University and worked both as a peer tutor and a teaching assistant during my college and graduate education. As a private tutor, I have worked with both middle school, high school, and college students teaching Algebra I & II, Geometry, Precalculus, Calculus, Biology, and AP Biology and college-level biology courses. I can also assist with test preparation for the AP Biology and the SAT II Biology exams as well as the general SAT exam.
Biology is a complicated subject, but I can help your student make connections between the material and the world around them, placing the information into a relatable context to build a deeper understanding. I draw on my students’ interests to create relatable metaphors to help them grasp complex biological concepts and move beyond rote memorization.
For tutoring math, I try to break down the formulas and help students to really understand the basic concepts behind what they are doing. I have found this approach to be highly effective in tackling complex problems for students who are having trouble with math.

I worked as both a peer tutor and a teaching assistant during my college and graduate education, and have also taught laboratory techniques and mentored research projects for high school and college-aged students.

Details
My rates vary from $50-75 per hour based on the subject level taught, although I am able to offer some students discounted rates based on financial need. This is my primary job so I need to earn enought to live on, but I do my best to lower the barrier for students who might not normally have access to one-on-one help.
