About Emma
My tutoring stands out from others because it is centered around the concept of goal-oriented learning. This means that we will work together to achieve set, measurable milestones during our lessons. I am incredibly patient and kind, leading my lessons to be calm, laid back, and informative.
I enjoy tutoring because I want to make a genuine difference in the lives of people around me. If I'm able to make one positive impact on one student a day, I've done my job correctly. Understanding everything at once is hard to do, but celebrating the little steps it takes to get there is what matters the most.
During my senior year of high school, I tutored a sophomore student in geometry as he was having a hard time understanding the content his school teacher was providing. By the end of each tutoring session, he understood just a little bit more than he did before, and before we know it he was passing his geometry class again. I felt so proud of him and was incredibly happy knowing I had impacted someone in such a meaningful way. I took a break from tutoring until I found Wyzant. Once on Wyzant, I put myself up as a flute tutor because I felt confident in my music education and flute playing skills. I now have 5 regular students and have watched them grow in immense ways since the start of our tutoring.
I am currently a sophomore student at Montana Technological University studying Metallurgical and Materials Engineering. I aim to graduate in the Spring of 2024 with a Bachelor of Science alongside two minors–one in Materials Science and the other in Mathematics.
During the Fall of 2021, I will be taking Multivariable Calculus (Calculus 3). I have previously taken and excelled at College Calculus 2, College Calculus 1, AP Calculus AB, Trigonometry, Algebra 2, Geometry, Algebra 1, Pre-Algebra, and Elementary Math. My grades have consistently stayed in the B to A+ range in my mathematics classes.
I have been playing the flute for nine years and the piccolo for two, and I have been in a variety of bands and orchestras. I currently play in Montana Technological University's pep and concert bands and intend to audition for the Butte Symphony Orchestra this summer. In high school, I was a marching band section leader for two of the there years I participated, was handpicked to participate in pit orchestra during my Senior year, was first chair in my school's audition band during my senior year, was second chair in the audition band during my junior year, participated in the non-audition band for two years, passed the audition for and participated in the jazz band for a semester, and participated in pep band for four years.

I offer free 15-minute consultations for new students. In a consultation, I we will discuss your strengths and weaknesses in the subject you're seeking help in, talk about what your goals are for tutoring, evaluate if we are a good fit for one another, and I will ask questions about the material you would like to cover during sessions.
I have worked with students ages 7 to 30 (2nd grade to adult) in various math subjects as well as flute performance, but am comfortable working with any student regardless of their age. If you're older and want to pick up a new skill, please feel free to contact me! If you're younger and are struggling to keep up with your schoolwork, the same goes to you as well.
There are a couple of things to consider when looking to hire a tutor:
1. Is the tutor knowledgeable in their subject?
2. Is the tutor a good fit for my personality?
3. Will the tutor take the time to make sure that I understand the content, even if one concept takes the entire lesson?
Personally, I feel as though I am able to work with most personality types. Whether you're introverted or extroverted, shy or outgoing, I'm here to help. I have been able to form lasting relationships with very shy, quiet students and have been able to do the same with students that are more excited and energized.
I am a very patient and understanding tutor. I look at learning in many different ways and am willing to put in the time and effort to make sure that you succeed. If you don't understand something the first time, let me know! I'll be sure to rephrase what I'm saying, and if it still doesn't get through on the second try, we'll keep working together until that tiny lightbulb inside your head clicks on.
