About Stephen
Throughout my teaching, no matter the subject, I strive to relate it to real world situations. Often times students struggle to learn a subject because they do not see the "real world" value in it. No matter the subject I'm teaching I always make it relatable and interesting.
I have been teaching professionally for the last 8 years, and for me the most satisfying part of the job is the "click" moment. When I see the spark in my students eyes and we both smile knowing that they just figured out a new concept.
I started teaching various math subjects in Highschool and never really stopped. As I went to college I always found myself wanting to be in a teaching role. Once I started traveling around the world I found Scuba diving and quickly became an instructor. Now I find myself back in the US wanting to continue teaching during Covid.
Depending on what type of tutoring you are signing up for I have the training and education to back it up. I firmly believe people should only be teaching a subject if they understand it forward and back. Math? I went to the Univeristy of Alabama, took trigonometry, and now help adults get out of debt. Chess? I have been playing chess and reading chess books my whole life. Swimming? Ive been swimming since I was 6 and a lifeguard or Scuba Instructor ever since.

I always start every teaching process the same way. Math, Chess, Swimming, Diving, whatever it is. Step 1: See where the student is. Play a game, ask some quesitons, have a good chat. See exactly where the strengths are so they can be reinforced and encouraged. And find the weaknesses so they can be worked on in a productive manner.
I will happily work with any kind of student. Although I really prefer a student who has a real desire to learn a subject. Either because they think it's cool or they really want to. If the student is really interested and polite - I'll go way above and beyond for them.

Online Class of any kind - $40 / hour
Private tutoring / home school- $30 / Hour
Semi Private tutoring / home school - $20 Per student per hour (minimum 2 students)
Homework club / homework help - $15 Per student Per hour (Minimum 10 sessions prebooked, minimum 2 students)
Scuba Lessons - $300 USD / Day starting rate. Additional depending on course.
