About Douglas
I enjoy explaining complex ideas in simple terms. I also know that if you don't know why you're learning something, then your brain will fight it.
Through college, I worked as a Math and C++ tutor. I enjoyed it, and the people I worked with seemed to go on and do well.
I have always been a natural at Math. I also love teaching. I particularly enjoy breaking down topics into simple, easy-to-understand explanations.

It is all individual. We do not learn the same. Two complaints I have. I think most people (myself included) are bad at a subject. (mine was music) There is a story of an awful teacher. I had a terrible teacher who made music into a class that I hated. I had a Math teacher who turned Math into a subject that I loved and thought was fun. We used to get in trouble for asking "Why do we need to know algebra?" this teacher had an answer. Math is like a muscle. learning algebra makes you stronger at problem-solving, and you will do better in the real world when you are faced with problems.
Teachers naturally want to explain things bottom up. They want to make you memorize every piece of the puzzle before they want to tell you why it matters. My brain fights this approach. So, for example, if I said that today, we will learn about how metal strings vibrate at varying pitches, creating different tones, and this is manipulated using a series of structures..... I get frustrated, and I have to force my brain to pay attention, while it tries hard to tune out this useless, boring information.
But if you started the same class by telling me we are about to learn how a guitar makes music, you invoke my curiosity, and my brain cannot get enough of your explanation.

Doug's style is adaptive and approachable. When I am stuck he has an anecdote or relatable story to help me place numbers and equations in daily life. Very intuitive in helping me to frame what my questions actually are.
