About Elaine
I am currently studying psychology at my university. I have been a teacher's assistant for two semesters and I am currently the lead tutor at my university's tutoring center and have tutored multitudes of students.
I love working with people and I am very flexible with time. My strengths in tutoring are my ability to rephrase things in a way you can understand, the use of real life examples, and fun jokes to really help solidify the material in a fun and engaging way.
I love being apart of the learning process and seeing people grow and become more confident in themselves and their abilities. Psychology is an amazing field to discover and I found my passion in it and I hope to inspire others to find theirs. If not through psychology, hopefully I can guide them to find theirs elsewhere.
I am a psychology major and have been a teacher's assistant for one year, half of which as been a Lead TA position. I am currently the Lead tutor for psychology at my university's tutoring center and I am very familiar and comfortable with Intro to Psychology concepts as I have been through the class for three semesters. Once as a student and twice as a tutor/teacher's assistant.

Ask them what they are most concerned about and we will start there. If they do not know where to start, I will just ask them what their assignment is and we will go through it together.
I have worked with students who love psychology and just love discussing the concepts and I have worked with students who hated the class and just needed to pass it. By being a friend and leader, both types of students have done fairly well.
Psychology is very abstract and concept based. It is an amazing field but can get very tricky. Be sure to hire someone who is able to rephrase things in several different ways so you can understand the best. No question is stupid.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Even if you aren't so sure of your own needs, ask anyway. Getting out of your own head and verbalizing what you need can help you think through it easier. Do not sit and ruminate, always ask for help and talk through it.

It was extremely helpful! I did awful on my first exam, but by the third exam I was getting As on the tests and homework’s, and ended up with an A in the class!
Elaine is always quick to answer questions and willing to explain things. She also genuinely cares about the students she works with and wants them to succeed. She'll work with you to do everything she can to help you succeed.
Elaine is a wonderful instructor whose passion for both teaching and psychology shines through in our tutoring sessions. After beginning tutoring sessions with Elaine, my understanding of the course material skyrocketed. This was reflected in the grades I began to receive. Overall, I ended the course with an A, coming up from a C. I would not have done as well in this course as I have if I had not reached out to Elaine and inquired about tutoring!
Elaine brings her personality and humor to the tutor session and makes what are sometimes boring topics really engaging and memorable. She clearly knows the subject matter, is incredibly passionate about psychology and other people, and she really cares about how you’re doing as a person and in the class. It’s super encouraging, and I really recommend her to help make a tough class a lil better.
