About Jessie

As an elementary school teacher, one of my favorite benefits of this professions is not only inspiring my students, but being even more inspired by them in return. Since I was young, I knew I wanted to be a teacher. Tutoring throughout middle school and high school allowed me to see when a student had their “ah ha!” moment of finally understanding something that seemed so complicated and impossible at first. With collaboration, organization, structure, content breakdown, and TIME, students will be able to improve in the atea(s) that they struggle... not only in scores or grades, but in self confidence and interest.

I have been tutoring since I was in 7th grade. I taught a variety of subjects to a variety of learners! From algebra 1 to AP English Comp, I was able to see how different people learn best, and how I can teach them accordingly. I learned what resources were helpful and what supports could make the world of a difference to how a student was able to understand material. I decided that I wanted to help people for a living because of how much joy it brought to my students and I. I graduated from Westfield State University with a bachelor’s degree (and licensure) in Elementary Education after completing my student teaching in an inner-city school located in Holyoke Massachusetts. I got my first teaching position at the same school I did my student teaching at, and taught 2nd grade for one year. It was one of the most challenging and rewarding years of my life as a new teacher. I am now in my second year of teaching, where I have moved to Monson, MA and will be working with 4th graders.

I always loved helping others!  I also enjoyed school, and learning was always really enjoyable for me. I wanted to teach since I was probably four years old, when I would hold pretend classes in my bedroom and teach all of my toys about the things that I learned that day in school.  I officially got started with it when I began tutoring in middle school. I realized it was a true passion of mine and I wanted to be able to do it every day for the rest of my life.

I tutored in middle school and high school, and various subject areas. I also have been working with kids since I was young, babysitting from the age of 13 up to the present time. I have a bachelors degree in elementary education and I am SEI endorsed. I have my license in elementary education (1-6) after completing my student teaching in an inner-city 1st grade classroom. I taught 2nd grade last year at the same inner-city school that I completed my student teaching. I will be teaching 4th grade this year and a new school system.

I usually introduce myself and let them know that I’m here to help them, and we are here to learn together. I also let them know that they are free to be completely comfortable with me and like I said, we will be working together to try and improve in whatever way that we can. I asked them what their interests are, because I like to try and include that in our sessions in the future. I also asked them what their strengths are and how they feel they learn best , Whether it be with visuals, notetaking, working with our hands.

I have worked with very high achieving learners, learners that have many disabilities, learners that have various means, I am learners that need intensive one on one care. I have worked with students ranging from the ages of three years old up to teenagers.

I would tell him or her to choose to work with the tutor that makes them feel comfortable. A teacher can have all the qualifications in the world and look great on paper, but when it comes to actually being taught by them, I can be a very unenjoyable and dry experience. Learning can be an amazing journey, it is the people that you surround yourself with throughout your education, no matter if it is general classroom or a one on one, that make the experience all the more memorable.  As I was walking around helping students during one of their assignments during their writing time, which is supposed to be quiet time but rarely ever is!, A student was looking at me with an odd expression on her face. As someone who doesn’t normally ask for help when she needs it, are used to be a confused face as an excuse to walk over and ask her if she was doing all right with her writing. She’s very confident writer, but she was silent for a few moments before asking me how old I was. I told her my age of 23, and looked at her as I smile. I asked her why she was wondering, And she responded by saying that her mom was 22 and how could I possibly be a teacher if I was the same age as her mom? She said that I was too young to be a teacher. It made me smile and eventually laugh, turning their heads of all of the students that we’re doing exactly what they were supposed to be doing! I realize that something I hope to do with route my teaching career is, no matter how old I may look or be, but I will be able to relate with my kids at what age they are at, because I want them to know that I can relate to them because I wants was a kid.  And she responded by saying that her mom was 22 and how could I possibly be a teacher if I was the same age as her mom? A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
What helps me? What do I like doing? What do I feel like is a strength of mine?  Do I like seeing pictures or do I like using writing?  Do I work with my hands? Do I like English or math better? Or neither? Or both?
