About Jill

Jill Jewett has been involved in the equine industry for over 35 years. Her experiences include over 24 years at The University of Findlay as an instructor, trainer, camp coordinator, and Equine/Pre-Vet recruiter. Jill has competed at USEA recognized horse trials through Preliminary level and has shown at USDF and USHJA recognized competitions. In addition, she has roots in western riding and has an appreciation for all breeds and disciplines.

Jill also has been judging for over 22 years and has had an USEF “r” license in Hunters, Hunter/Jumping Seat Equitation, and Jumpers since 2012. She became the Head Trainer for St. George Equestrian Center in 2012, Whitehouse, Ohio and successfully coached Bowling Green State University’s Hunt Seat Equestrian Team from 2012-2016. In 2015, Jill started her business Perfect Time Equestrian and continues to develop effective riders that have a solid position. Jill returned to the University of Findlay, Findlay, OH as a Riding Instructor in the English Equestrian Program and Head Coach for the IDA (Intercollegiate Dressage Association) Team. Her passion is evident as she loves helping riders of all ages reach their goals and fulfill their dreams while developing horses to their greatest potential.

Perfect Time strives to offer a fun and educational experience in a safe environment. Helping individuals fulfill their dreams is rewarding and energizing while the horses bring smiles to the riders’ faces.

I have been blessed and teaching has always come naturally to me as I love people and sharing my passion with them.  Teaching started for me while in college and I haven't stopped.

I have over 30 years of experience working with horses starting with a bachelor's degree in Equestrian Studies from the University of Findlay.  In addition, I am an USEF licensed judge in Hunters, Equitation, and Jumpers.  Along with my work experience at UF in many capacities, I have ridden with many top trainers in dressage, eventing, and hunter/jumpers over the years such as Denny Emerson, George Morris, Michael Page, Bernie Traurig, Kalman deJurenak, and David O'Connor.  My competition experience includes shows and events sanctioned by USHJA, USEA, USDF, as well as numerous local and state organizations.

I like to know a brief history of their experience and their horse's experience and then will ask them their goals.  Each horse and rider are unique and require an individualized approach.

I have worked with all levels of student from beginner to advanced and ages 3-70.  Their goals have varied greatly from competitive showing to developing a closer partnership with their horse or my lesson horses while enjoying the learning process.

Finding a teacher that you "click" with is important.  Talking with them and watching a lesson when possible will help to observe their teaching style and learn their personality.  Other important attributes include being positive, patient, and sincere.  Another trait to look for is the ability to communicate an idea in many different ways.  Each person is a unique individual with different learning styles.  An effective teacher will be flexible and adapt accordingly.  Finally, evaluate the teacher's experiences and qualifications so you feel confident they can help you advance toward your goals.

One occasion recently was teaching one of my young students how to canter for the first time and enjoying the huge smile on her face.  Always exciting!  Another event occured when one of my jumping students said with wonder and amazement "that's the biggest jump I have ever jumped!"

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Why do you want to take lessons? What are your short-term and long-term goals (the teacher can help with these areas also)?  What are your strengths and weaknesses when riding or working with horses and in general?
