About Mia
I have been working with students for about 5 years. I am currently a senior at the University of Louisville studying education. I have worked with students from preschool to highschool. I have experience working with students in JCPS as part of my education so I am familiar with the content. , Outside of the work I have done in JCPS, I have worked in a daycare teaching preschool age students. I have also worked as an enrichment teacher over the summer for middle school students. As well as different age groups, I also have experience working with students at different performance levels. With my knowledge of education I am constantly being updated about new and proven teaching techniques. I am also minoring in English, so my knowledge on that will also be very current.
I have always loved learning and teaching. I started working with students my senior year of high school. My favorite part teaching and tutoring has always been seeing how good students feel about themselves when they finally understand something they have been struggling with. I love helping students get to that place where they are confident in themselves and their ability to work things out. I strongly believe in students setting their own goals and working with them to meet that goal. I go above and beyond to find resources and assist my students in meeting their goals.
I have always loved learning and teaching. I started working in an elementary school when I was in high school and I decided that I wanted to be a teacher.
I am currently a senior at the University of Louisville. I am studying education with a minor in English. I have been working with students (elementary - high school) on language arts, writing, and reading for the past four years. I am currently in the middle of completing my student teaching at McFerran Elementary, so I am successfully working with and teaching students everyday.

I typically like to start by asking students what they are hoping to learn and what goals they have for tutoring. I also like to ask students what teaching practices they respond well to and what they don't respond well to. I also like to get an idea of what students already know and understand by looking at work samples and asking students what they feel their strengths and weaknesses are.
I have worked with students from preschool through high school. I have also worked with students at different performance levels. I have worked with students who were struggling and needed extra help. I have also worked with students who were advanced.
I would say to look for someone who will make the experience specific to what you need instead of someone who offers something more general.
I recently taught a summer enrichment program for middle schoolers. My students were in seventh grade. We only had a couple of weeks together, but we were able to complete a project. The students designed a community kitchen. They came up with a business plan, recipes, and they did research on how their plan would benefit the community. I am so fond of this experience because we had such a short time to do it and it was all online, but my students were so dedicated and made a really great project.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Students should consider what specifically they need help with. When asking for help in a certain subject, it can be helpful to know your strengths and weaknesses within that subject. Maybe you completely understand parts of speech, but need help with writing. Knowing strengths and weaknesses can help the teacher understand the best way to help!
