About Jessica
My tutoring style is student-focused. I custom-tailor each learning path to each student. One size does not fit all! I have used many different tactics in helping students and I adapt to learning styles and needs.
Naturally inquisitive, I have always had a love of learning. Tutoring and teaching students of all ages allows me to see this same passion develop in my students. For 10 years I have had the chance to help students achieve their goals through focused, personal tutoring. My skill and passion are evident through nearly 1,000 positive reviews and feedback from students and parents in one year alone. I am a certified tesol teacher specializing in English and Reading for both native-speakers and students learning English as a second language. Always seeking new ways to support my students, I am currently working towards an additional certification with a Teachers College Reading and Writing Program. The ultimate reward for me is to see a student make progress, realize their strengths and find a deeper love of learning.
From a young age I have enjoyed learning and teaching others, from playing “Teacher” as a child to seeking volunteer opportunities in my younger years. As I saw this theme emerge I started tutoring to do what it is I love to do: teach! Tutoring allows me to realize this dream through guiding my students to be their best.
I have experience teaching a broad range of subjects such as science, literacy and reading both in the classroom, as a volunteer, and through online teaching. I am a certified TESOL teacher and currently pursuing additional certification through a Teacher College Reading and Writing Program which will allow me access to more resources and techniques for teaching students with a wide-range of abilities.

In our first sessions, I will get to know the student on a personal level to learn what their interests are and what their past experience with tutoring has been. Next I will gauge their current level through low-stress evaluation and age-appropriate games and activities.
I have had the opportunity to work with a range of ages and abilities from adults down to toddlers. Adult lessons focus on conversational skills and business language. I work equally with adult students and elementary to high school-aged children. I work with students who need help reaching expected milestones and those seeking to become more advanced in their studies.
Understanding your current challenges and goals can help you find the best fit for you or your student. Finding a teacher who has experience, but more importantly, passion in teaching is key. These two areas go hand-in-hand in helping you progress.
One of my students who has been less eager and hesitant to participate in tutoring broke out of his shell recently, getting excited to learn, making a great effort and subsequently showing substantial progress in his studies.
