I want to get to know them: their interests, motivations, learning styles, etc. I then try to incorporate all of this into my approaches when I am working with them.
Primarily high school students
I think a student needs to look for someone who is interested in who they are because it is important for teachers to be able to relate to their students; it is also critical that a teacher is able to use a variety if instructional strategies in order to meet the needs and learning styles of their students.
We just had Back to School Night, and it was a pleasure to see students and their families here at school.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
How do I best learn? Do I learn by watching? Do I learn by doing? Do I work best with graphic organizers (and so on)?
How do I need others to communicate with me? How do I need to communicate with others?
What motivates me? What interests me?
